Matcha Grades, and Explanation

Matcha Grades, and Explanation

WHAT IS MATCHA?

Matcha is a finely ground powder from shade-grown Camellia sinensis green tea leaves, rich in antioxidants like EGCG and L-theanine. Providing sustained energy and focus, matcha is added to teas, lattes, smoothies, and baked goods for a nutrient-rich boost. Matcha naturally contains a moderate amount of caffeine.

EXPLAIN MATCHA GRADES?

Ceremonial Grade: This is the highest possible quality, made from the youngest, shade-grown leaves, resulting in a vibrant green colour, delicate flavour, and high nutrient content, ideal for traditional tea ceremonies. If authentic, it's universally extremely expensive.

AAA Grade: Premium Grade Matcha, often considered comparible, or a small step below ceremonial, made from first harvest, shade grown, hand-picked leaves, offering a rich and smooth flavour with excellent nutritional value.

AA Grade: A blend of first and second harvest leaves, with a more robust flavour, suitable for lattes, smoothies, and recipes.

A Grade (Culinary Grade): A lower grade, often used for baking, smoothies, or as a base for matcha drinks, offering a bolder, less nuanced flavour compared to higher grades.

Matcha Latte

Method:

  1. Use one half tea spoon (2.5ml) per cup
  2. Add a small amount of hot water
  3. Use the milk frother to thoroughly mix and dissolve the matcha in the water
  4. Add hot milk and froth, or use the coffee machine milk foam setting until the cup is full
  5. Add one teaspoon of organic allulose or regular sugar (this is highly recommended since it compliments Matcha latte's well)

Tip: For the best flavour, use water that is hot but not boiling (80°C)
